“Refuse Every Distraction”
“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.” Matthew 14:30 (KJV)
Today, I have come to charge you to refuse to be distracted, regardless of the form or appearance of the distractions. More especially in this day and age where so many things are happening concurrently, refusing distractions is necessary, if you will achieve anything tangible. Our text today is a familiar scripture. Peter found himself doing the impossible. He was walking on water after the Master called him. The key to this great accomplishment was the instruction he received from the Lord and his quick obedience to that instruction.
Jesus’ Word to Peter was not a mere command but a command backed by the full creative power of God, with no margin for failure. In fact, as far as Jesus was concerned, Peter walking on the water was already a concluded issue the very moment He spoke the Word. So why then did Peter find himself sinking?
Peter took his eyes off Jesus and started to pay attention to the boisterous winds and the unstable waters beneath him. The question is? Was the wind there when Peter got off the boat? Yes! The wind was there. But as long as he maintained focus and as long as he fixed his gaze on Jesus, the wind was immaterial.
Beloved, when you look down, you will see discouragement and disappointment. When you look back, you will see regrets and mistakes. When you look around, you will see distractions. But when you look up, you see victory, you see triumph and you see hope. God wants you to be victorious and your victory is already concluded. In order to see the manifestation, keep your eyes on Jesus. Don’t allow distractions. All you have to do is to maintain focus on the One who began the journey and your victory shall be guaranteed.
(1) Matthew 14:22-33 NKJV Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
(2) Hebrews 12:2 NKJV looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Prayers: It is a beautiful day and a great week for me. Grace is reaching me greatly. Mercy is flowing to me in abundance. I have entered into my Season of Recovery. God has remembered me for good. I look up to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith. I lay aside every weight and every sin that easily beset me. My focus is on Jesus alone. I refuse every distraction. God has given to me all things that pertain to life and godliness. I will arrive at my God ordained destiny. I refuse to be ordinary. I refuse to be a failure. I am destined for greatness. I am above only and not beneath. The power of the wicked shall not prevail over me. The Lord God is my Sun and Shield. He gives me grace and glory. No good thing will He withhold from me. I am of God and I have overcome the devil. For greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. The Lord is my portion and my inheritance. The lines have fallen unto me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a goodly heritage. My hope in God shall not be dashed. Non of my expectations shall be cut short. My dreams shall not be aborted. My portion another shall not take. I am unstoppable. I am untouchable. Only good shall come my way today in Jesus name. Amen!”
